We’re delighted that the BBC has commissioned another series of Great Escape with Monty Halls and his now famous dog, Reubs. You might remember his exploits establishing a croft near Applecross, fishing, keeping pigs and hens and creating the romantic, idyllic yet incredibly hard-working lifestyle of a crofter.
Well now he’s visiting our favourite island, North Uist. We manage two holiday cottages there – while he’s working as a countryside ranger. British Airways ran an article recently in their in-flight magazine High Life.
He’s into nature – talking about and filming the world’s largest colony of grey seals. Otters, the rare Sowersby whales, corncrakes and of course machair, greylag geese. Oh and having fun on the beaches, surfing and inevitably with the locals in the pub.
3.5 million viewers tuned in regularly, and tourist numbers in Applecross shot up 10 times. Will he do the same for North Uist and Benbecula? We think so. Follow in his footsteps and enjoy a holiday in one of our great cottages at Loch Portain.
